Happy New Year & A Big Thank You to All

Wow, it has been an eventful year, this 2009. From getting married in Jan, to a reviving the blog after a slump. It has been a wonderful journey and I have made some wonderful friends like Divija, Rati, Cynthia, Palak, Bella (who are fellow bloggers on Indian Products) and my other regular readers & followers.

We have together cribbed about Lakme, rejoiced together over NARS dupes, marveled over MAC, drooled over Lush....

I have learnt so much over the last year, about newer products, newer techniques. Thank you all, for your comments, love, appreciation, support at all times.

Thank you all for a lovely year! Looking forward to a wonderful new year ahead. May you be blessed with love, peace, wisdom, affluence and beauty.

See you all on the right side of 2010!!

Streetwear Stay-On Lip Color

What it claims: Well, nothing much. It does say a lot (actually it says nothing, on the package or on their non-existent website). So I'll hazard a guess here, and make the inference that Stay - On means long lasting and that is what they are claiming. I have the shade Red Current.

1. Really long lasting. A coat will take you through 5 to 7 hours (depending on how much you talk and lick your lips)
2. The shade Red Current is well a reddish berry colored shade. It appears dark berry in the tube and has very very very tiny, like microscopic shimmer in it, that really sets it apart. So while it appears matt in texture, it has a lovely shine to it that you just can't put your finger on! So you don't need gloss separately to put some shine in this.

1. They have a very small selection of shades, just 9, I think
2. This tends to feel drying on the lips after a while.
3. Dissolves very quickly in oily food, or lip balm or even gloss that is applied on top.

The Body Shop - Facial Buffer - A Review

What it claims: A gentle exfoliating sponge to polish your skin, while cleansing, leaving it feel refreshed and looking radiant. Use daily for a gentle skin boost. Particularly good for use on dry skin that needs to be exfoliated regularly. Use every morning or evening to help remove dead skin cells. Suitable for all skin types.

How to use: Wet buffer thoroughly. Apply a small amount of cleansing foam to the wet Facial Buffer and rub over the face in circular movements.Rinse thoroughly, by hand, after use and hang to dry

1. Does really exfoliate well. As you can see from the pic above, this thing has serrated edges all over that mechanically exfoliate. Can be combined with your favourite face wash/gel/soap to provide good cleansing & exfoliation
2. Provides a nice morning massage. I have noticed that I actually feel more fresh and awake after using this in the morning.
3. I am now using lesser quantity of face wash, as compared to earlier as this tends to foam up the face w…

Lakme counter closed at Westside store

Last week I read on Rati’s Blog about how Westside has closed the Lakme counter in Delhi because of too many complaints from customers.
Yesterday I went to the Westside store in Andheri and found that it had been closed there as well. Apparently because of customer complaints. No one was willing to tell what exactly the issue was, but I am not surprised.
Lakme is a brand our grandmothers & mothers grew up with. There is an innate trust and brand image and a lot of new makeup users as well as those who are conservative tend to drift towards Lakme, as it just feels more familiar and comfortable. Lakme didn’t get you feeling all conscious about being a newbie.  And with the introduction of new colors, new products and new textures, Lakme seemed all set to take on the Max factor’s & Maybellines of the world. There was in fact a revival of the lakme.
Unfortunately over the past few months, Lakme seems to have gone horribly wrong. The prices were jacked up tremendously, but the produ…

Illuminating lotions & potions

Illuminating lotions & potions
Recently I went on a hunt with a friend to look for products that would help our skin look glowy and dewy. This is a record of our trip and will help you demystifying the world of illuminators.
When we started off, we didn’t even know what these were called. We just walked into our local parlor and explained to them that we were looking for a product to add glow to the skin. After a lot of hits and misses and googling, we finally uncovered its name: Illuminators.
So we found that
Illuminators, highlighters, shimmers, luminizers and glitters are all the same thing. Surprisingly, they are flattering on everyone in the right doses. They reflect light to make the skin seem more glowy and luminescent. When used sparingly these and in the right locations, these products can brighten up your face like a great night's rest. You can dab them under the eyebrows, in the corners of the eyes, the cheekbones to highlight or evenly all…

Make up trends for Christmas 2009 & New Year 2010!

The year is about to wrap up and all of us are busy making last minute plans to either dance the night away, or have a quite dinner with loved ones. Whatever maybe your plan I have a few tips below that can help you look your best this season

Skin that Glows: The dewy look. Winters make our skin look dry, dull and lifeless. So make up tries to, well, “make-up” for it by putting the glow right back. This look enhances your skin without looking thick and cakey. To achieve this look you can use a shimmering cream to make your skin glow

1. Revlon Face Illuminating lotion in Pink Light: Mix a drop with tinted moisturizer / moisturizer and apply. Rs. 695/- for 45 ml

2. Streetwear Crystal glow in Nude: Mix a drop with tinted moisturizer or plain moisturizer and apply. Rs. 230 for 22 ml

3. Ponds Age Miracle Day Cream is a day time shimmery moisturizer. Apply and layer with tinted moisturizer. Rs. 525 for one pot.

Lip Stains: Combine the dewy glowing skin with a lip stain look, this is great fo…

Confessions of a Make Up Addict

Image via Wikipedia

I love make up. That I suppose is evident as I write a blog about it. But contrary to popular opinion(ahem, ahem) , I am not very proficient  in it. I know, confessing this may put a dent in my image as a makeup blogger.
But in my defense I just started using make up like 2 – 3 years ago and I feel that there are a whole lot of people like me out there. Who might feel like coming out of the vanity case themselves after reading this post.
So in the tone of the season, I would like to confess:

I am afraid of the eye-lashcurler: I confess. I have used this medieval contraption only once. Frankly it terrifies me. I see the huge jaw like clamps headed towards my eye, threatening to do the unthinkable (which is rip out my lashes). I break into a cold sweat. I am not good at choosing the correct shades of lipsticks. This is all thanks to my pigmented red lips. The glosses and lip colors look oh-so-pretty in the tube and on the back of my hand. On my lips they either make m…

Addicted to Blush Awards 2009

Image via Wikipedia Inspired by Allure’s 2009 list of beauty award winners, I decided to put up my own list. Of course this is not a comprehensive list and this is limited to my experiences only with the products below.

Medium to thick coverage: No winners here. Have tried Streetwear as well as Maybelline matt dream mousee. Neither impressed me. Any reccos?

Light coverage:
Ponds Age Miracle Tinted Moisturizer with spf 15: It moisturizes, protects and makes your skin glow. What else could you ask for? Only for those who need sheer coverage.

No winners. Haven’t come across a decent one as yet. Any recommendations?

Maybelline white stay UV with spf 18 slips into the purse easily and reduces shine on the go

Lakme Quad Desert Rose: has coppery red, goldens, shimmery browns to work your eyes with. This is a good quad with eyeshadow colors that suit most skin tones and looks.

Elle 18 liquid eyeliner still rules the roost here for me. It is cheap, …

Allure Beauty Winners 2009

Allure the magazine is well known for its yearly make up awards. The 2009 list is out. While it features mostly products available on the US, there are some that you lay your hand on in India too. Below is the list along with the comments from allure. And you can read the whole list here at
Revlon Illuminance Crème Shadow palette in Not Just Nudes offers a quartet of silky pigments to blend together or wear alone for a burnished glow.
Many brown liners are hard to detect, but Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in 19L is a toasty chestnut that doesn't look flat. (New Beauty Centre at Khar retails this)
Elizabeth Arden Smoky Eyes Powder Pencil in Midnight. This lush indigo is surprisingly flattering and makes eyes stand out. (Try Shoppers Stop for this line)
L'Oréal Paris Lineur Intense Brush Tip Liquid Eyeliner satisfies both liquid amateurs and aficionadas. Its narrow tip is remarkably easy to control, whether you're going …

How to wear colored eyeliners

Image via Wikipedia Colored Eyeliners are the rage these days with every company offering a myriad of hues. Not everyone is comfortable using them. Some prefer to stick to the regular black/brown/grey and the occasional navy. While there are others like me who just love colored eyeliners to bits, I have colors ranging from lavender to moss green to silver to purple to baby pink.

Colored eyeliner can bring out your eyes far better than black or brown eyeliners which, when heavily applied, make your eyes look smaller than they really are. However colored eyeliners can make your upper lash line look thinner (making lashes look sparse) as well as the eye less defined. Especially when you use colors that are lighter, or not in the category of grey/navy blue.

Here are a few tricks I use to successful incorporate colored eyeliners into my daily look

1. It is important to make sure that your eyeliner does not clash with the outfit. Choose an eyeliner that compliments the colors in your outfit…

INCOLOR by Jordana Lip Jelly Juicy Tints - Review

INCOLOR by Jordana Lip Jelly Juicy Tints What is this: This a pot of.. hmm.. well how do I describe this? Let me refer to company literature. They claim this is “Dab on Pot Gloss with a Conditioning Formula, Treats & Nourishes Lips” It is available in about 6 different colors. I have 1.Berry Wine: This is a deep dark cherry color with very, very slight golden shimmer 2.Fruity Guava: a light red which goes on quite sheer and glossy with a hint of red (see picture on right) They also have a lot of neutral colors like vanilla latte (a light caramel color), coconut (transparent), strawberries & cream (a light pink) and watermelon delight Pros: 1.While it claims to be a pot gloss, this is also a tint and a balm. It softens lips and has a little glossy shine to it. It does wear off after a while, but leaves behind a tint. 2.Highly pigmented (except the coconut & vanilla one)
